In line with KPMG’s Community Day on 7th August 2010, the theme being "KPMG Cares!", this year our team decided to focus on a shelter in Klang. The name of the Shelter is Rumah Pelindungan Social – (RPS) which is affiliated with NCWO (National Women Organisation).
This shelter was set up in Klang in February 1996. Over the years, this shelter provide holistic help for women, children and teenager in crises, inclusive of victims of domestic violence, single mothers, unwed mothers, rape survivors, abused children and run-away teens. In August 2001, Rumah Pelindungan Social extended its services to include a Half-Way house.
After our survey and checking on the place, we decided to contribute to this shelter in the following ways with a aim to do something meaningful to the community and let our CSR initiative has a positive impact on the community we targeted.
1.To help them with Tuition.
2.To teach them a life skill like baking, sewing, computer knowledge.
3.To contribution in kind (sofa set, oven, sewing machine, computers, books, cabinets, etc.)
4.To organise an educational trip to Petrosains on 7th August 2010
5. To help organize in-house fund-raisers like selling breakfast, bake goods items to KPMGians. The funds collected will be towards the Shelter.
Proud to say that within one month period, we managed to carry out all the activities as plan and these activities somehow bring change to their community. One main aim to look at right now is the sustainability of the project.
KPMGians, we never say NO to charity!
